Mahatma Gandhi University is organising a Colloquium on “The Status of Freedom of Religion in India,” hosted by the Inter-University Centre for Social Science Research and Extension (IUCSSRE) and the Mar Chrysostom Chair at Mahatma Gandhi University, in association with the Centre for the Study of Society and Secularism (CSSS), Mumbai. The event will take place on Tuesday, 1st October 2024 at the main Conference Hall, Convergence Academia Complex, MG University campus.
The colloquium is based on the CSSS report, now published as a book by Irfan Engineer, Director, CSSS, which examines various forms of violations of freedom of religion or belief in India. The report highlights issues such as changes in legislation, physical violence, and hate crimes under the current dispensation.
Vice Chancellor Dr CT Aravindakumar will inaugurate the programme. Former Minister for Education, Sri M.A. Baby will deliver the keynote address. Dr Valson Thambu, former member of National Minorities Commission, Sri R. Rajagopal, Editor-At-Large, The Telegraph, will speak at the colloquium. Sri Irfan Engineer will chair the session.
